My name is Rishav and I am
the writer and founder of this blog. I have done my B.tech (CSE) from IP
University New Delhi. Today I am going to share my campus interview experience
in Dell. Friends, it is very easy to take an on-campus placement. You appear in
company’s interview recruitment derives in morning and in the evening you get a
job in your hand. So without struggling much you get a job through on-campus
placement. On the other side in off-campus placement there are thousands of
people and finally a few get selected thus a great competition in off-campus
placement. Therefore it is very important to get serious for on-campus
placement if companies visit your campus.
Dell came to our campus
after the four IT companies. Dell placement process is divided in two parts:
1. Written
test
2. Interview
(technical and HR)
Written
test: On 15th October, 2012 Dell conducted its written test in our
campus. Dell itself, don’t conduct written test, though it gives contract to
some company to conduct its written test. The written test constitute following
three sections:
a.
English (15 questions)
b.
Quantitative Aptitude (20 questions)
c.
Technical Part (10 questions)
English: there were very simple questions
in English section. 8 questions were from comprehensive passages (there were 2
comprehensive passages). Rest 7 questions were simple questions related to fill
in the blanks, no antonyms and synonyms questions were there. R.S Aggarwal
Objective English book is sufficient to crack English.
Quantitative Aptitude (QA): very easy questions from QA part like work
and time, problem on train. You can follow R.S Aggarwal book for this section
also.
Technical questions: 10 questions were from
this section. The questions were very easy and logical based on C, C++ and data
structures. There were output finding questions; if you know how to generate
logic in languages like C/C++ you can crack this section very easily.
My written test was gone quite well and I was pretty sure to be selected in written test. There were four codes to question papers. The questions were same in four codes but there numbering was different.

Interview
Day: On 16th Oct, 2013 Dell recruiting team came to our campus.
There were 12 members in their team. 10 were from technical domain and 2 were
from HR. Dell team firstly gave a small power point presentation. Explain the
work profile, package and perks to be given and bond. You must be curious about
package. Well the package was 3 lacks/annum. And they told us, you will get
21000/month after deductions. After PPT, they announced the names of candidates
who were selected in written test held one day earlier. There were 35 students
out of 150 who were selected in written test. Luckily I was one of them.
Now
comes the interview turn:
First
interview was the technical interview. There were 5 panels of technical
interview. I was allotted panel number 5. My turn in that panel was 2nd.
When I was called for the Interview I was a little bit nervous. Obviously you
are nervous before your interview but don’t think much about what will happen
in interview panel. I was waiting outside the interview panel, and then
suddenly first candidate came out of panel. He was not happy from his interview
and he scared me. Now it was my turn, I was called by Interviewer in interview
panel. Before entering to room, I opened the gate slightly and asked to come
in.
After entering the room, I
noticed there were two people (aged 35 to 40) in the panel.
Me: Good morning Sir.
Interviewer 1: Good morning Rishav, how are you?
Me: I am good sir, how are you?
Interviewer 1: I am also fine Rishav. Thank you.
interviewer 2: Ok Rishav, introduce yourself.
Me:I told my name, hometown,my hobbies and my career goals. I told them one of my habbits as cooking. both laughed at this and further asked question. Interviewer 1: So Rishav, what you cook and do you follow any master chef?
Me: I explained them about
what I like to cook and how I learn these things.
Interviewer 1: Ok, how you
spend your time.
Me: I explained my hobbies
again and also my daily schedule.
Interviewer 2: tell me
more about your interests?
Me: I explained more
activities and I mention I sometimes read newspaper.
Interviewer 1: he asked me
questions about activities of Anna Hazare that are going around and do u
support him?
Me: I explained them what
he is doing, I also said I follow him and sometimes I go to protests (But I
don’t).
Interviewer 1: Ok good,
what you think Anna Hazare don’t get support in his 2nd movement.
Me: I explained.
Interviewer 2: tell me the
activities of Arvind kejriwal that are going around?
Me: told.
Interviewer 2: Ok that’s
sufficient. Let’s come to technical part. What subjects do you like most in
B.tech?
Me: I said I like all
subjects of CS like Data structure, C, C++, Java, OS, DBMS.
Interviewer 1: write a
program to reverse a string.
Me: done
Interviewer 2: Puzzle
questions: there are 14 balls of same shape and size. There is one ball that is
heaviest among all the balls, how many steps are needed to find the ball.
Me: I was explaining,
interviewer stopped me
Interviewer 2: I think you
have heard about this problem before, let me ask you another one. Then he asked
me there are two jugs of capacity 3 liter and 5 liter respectively. They both
are of uneven shape. You have to measure exactly 4 liter of water. How can you
do this?
Me: hardly 1 minute
puzzle.
Interviewer 1: what is
integrity constraint in database?
Me: I explained.
Interviewer 1: tell me
projects that you have done?
Me: I explained my banking
system project.
Interviewer 2: what
modification can you make to this project?
Me: I explained.
Interviewer 1: tell me the
list of tables that you have made in your project.
Interviewer 2: tell me the
seminar you have done in your B.tech?
Interviewer 2: last
question from my side. What is the role of virtual memory in Operating System?
Interviewer 1: Now last
question from my side where you see yourself in next 5 years and to what level
you want to go?
Interviewer 1: Ok Rishav
we are done, do u have any question to ask
Me: I asked the questions
regarding training.
So this was technical
interview. It took around one hour. After 10 minutes I was called for HR
interview. I was quite confident and all the nervousness was gone. There was
one person in HR panel. I entered in the room and I wished him and took my
seat.
Interviewer: what was your
AIEEE rank?
Me: I said 30000 but
actually it was 59000 (who cares).
Interviewer: If you were not selected in this
college, which college would you prefer (don’t say IITs, NITs)
Me: I explained.
Interviewer: On what basic
we can say college is good or not whether it is placement/faculty.
Me: I said faculty and
explained it.
Interviewer: what you surf
on internet?
Me: I said google, youtube and facebook.
Interviewer: when you use
facebook in a day
Me: whenever I get time.
Interviewer: how many
interviews you have faced before.
Me: I told.
Interviewer: thank you
Rishav, I am done you can leave now.
Results were announced in
two or three hours. 14 candidates out
of 35 were selected. I was lucky to get seat.
