Work profile of Bank clerk / PO

Dear Friends, as we know that today there are no of vacancies in banking sector. All the students are preparing for these banking exams. But before entering the banking sector we must know about work culture of bank, what type of work we have to do in the bank. It’s my immense pleasure to make you know about the work profile of a clerk & a P.O. These questions will help in interview also as panel asked such type of questions.

Profile of clerk

                   Clerk is a first person to which we meet. In other words Clerk is the front desk & image of bank. The responsibilities of a clerk are following:

• Clearing: Now all want to know what is clearing. As we do business some people make payment by cheque of different banks. But we don’t have account in every bank. So we submit our cheque in that bank in which bank we have account. This cheque is send to NBO and then NBO will send this cheque to that bank of which the cheque is issued. This process is called clearing.

• Transfers of cheques: if we want to transfer money by cheques from one account to other account of same bank this is also duty of clerk.
• Opening of accounts: to open saving and the current account is the responsibility of a clerk.
• Fixed deposit and time deposit: in order to open the FD or TD account we have to go to clerk.
• Issue DD: If we want the DD to which we have to consult is also the clerk.
• Deposit and withdrawal of money: if someone wants to make deposit or withdrawal the money he or she has to go to single window operator that is the clerk.
• Balance enquiry: everyone wants to know what balance is his or her account. To enquire the balance there is the only person that is the clerk.

• OCC (outward cheque collection): sometimes in bank there are some outstations cheques, these outstation cheques are also transferred by the clerk to their NBO.
• Order cheque book: it is also the responsibility of the clerk to order the cheque book.
• NEFT/RTGS: RTGS and NEFT are also done by clerks to transfer money.
• Passbook printing: to print the passbook is also the responsibility of clerk.

In other word words the clerk is a single window operator which means a single window provide all the services to their customers. A customer needs not to go anywhere to fulfill his or her requirements.

Responsibility or work profile of Probationary officer/ Bank Officers:

PO is person who authenticates all banking work. The responsibilities of a PO are following:

• Opening loan account: when we want to purchase something and don’t have money, in that case we finance from bank. For this we have to make open the loan account and PO will do that.
• Internet banking/mobile banking: these days we can do all the transactions seating at home by internet banking/mobile banking. These services are provided by bank officers.
• Clearing: inward clearing and checking of outward clearing is done by a PO.
• Block ATM: if ATM is stolen then it is blocked by officers.
• Authorization: all the work done by clerk will be authorized by officers.
