How to clear SSC CGL| Tips to clear SSC CGL

SSC CGL is one of the biggest employment test in India to recruit gradate candidates for different post. There come many posts under SSC CGL from clerk level post to Inspector posts. Many of the posts under SSC CGL are very good posts such as income tax inspector, excise inspector and examiner etc. These are the jobs which have higher salary in addition to power in hand. You can earn money by unfair means. Promotion wise these posts are very good, within 10 to 12 years you will become assistant commissioner which is same as UPSC group A posts. If you want to take any of these jobs there is one

option for you and that is SSC combines graduate level examination. Staff Selection Commission conducts CGL every year in the month of June-July. There are three phases of this examination:

1. Tier 1 exam (200 marks)
2. Tier 2 exam (400 marks)
3. Interview or skill test (100 marks)

Thus in order to appear for tier 2 exam, you have to clear tier 1 exam first. Tier 1 exam consist of 4 sections i.e. English, mathematics, logical reasoning and general knowledge. There are 50 questions from each section. Thus tier 1 exam consist of 200 marks in total and the time allotted in this section is 2 hours. The cut off for this exam is approx. 84-85 for general category and 78-80 for other categories. The is some negative marking i.e. 0.25 negative marking for an incorrect answer. If you seriously want to get a good job under SSC CGL exam then tier 1 section is very important. You have to score at least 140 marks in order to get good marks because the marks of tier 1 are added in calculation of total marks for selection. The level of exam is not so high you can score good marks in this section if you prepare for 3 to 4 months for this section.

Reviews of four sections:

1. Mathematical part: this section is tougher section among all sections. The questions in this section comes from the under 10^th level NCERT mathematical books. Actually questions are not tough but they are time consuming and if you practice from NCERT books you can easily solve these questions. 5 to 10 questions are based upon theorems, so you have to practice each and every theorem from 8^th and 10^th standard books. There are many books available in the market for SSC CGL, you can purchase these books and can practice from these books.
2. Logical reasoning part: this section is very easy. You can solve all 50 questions in few minutes. One book that I will suggest is R.S Aggarwal logical reasoning book. None of question will come out of this book. Practice some hard question from this book; this will increase your speed in the exam. You can score 44-50 marks in this section easily. One thing that you need is practice and a lot of practice.
3. English section: this section is also very easy. Simple questions based on narration, active and passive voices, sentence correction and comprehension passage comes. You can practice from R.S Aggarwal object. English book and from the grammar books.
4. General knowledge section: for clearing this section you have to study from lot of books or I will suggest you to buy 2-3 good books of general knowledge for SSC CGL from the market and prepare questions from them. You can’t just rely on these books, you should follow a newspaper for current affairs because 10 to 15 questions out of a total 50 questions are current affair question in SSC CGL exam. Don’t read a local newspaper instead follow a national newspaper and read every event of national and international affairs.

So this was the small reviews of all four sections of tier 1 SSC CGL exam. Merely solving the questions would not help you increase your speed of solving questions, for increasing speed solve a few mock test with timers on or join some coaching institute, there you will solve a lot of problem and your speed will gradually increase. If you follow above tips you can definitely get good marks in SSC CGL tier 1 exam. After the tier 1 exam there comes another exam tier 2. This is the main exam of SSC CGL. You have to score very good marks in this section to get a good post in SSC CGL. There are two sections in this exam:

1. Mathematical section: this part consists of 100 questions of 200 marks and time duration is 2 hours. There is negative marking of 0.5 marks for each incorrect answer. The pattern of this paper is same as described above.
2. English section: this part consists of 200 questions of 200 marks and same 2 hours are allotted for this exam. There is 0.25 negative marking for each incorrect answer.

Tier 2 mathematical and English sections are same as that of tier 1. Therefore same books are required for preparation of tier 2 exam as in case of tier 1 exam. The main thing you should focus is on time. Time is the critical factor and you have to solve a lot of questions in very short span of time. And you can do this by practicing a lot of questions. The cut off for interview post is approx. 350 marks (tier 1 + tier 2) and for the non-interview post it is 300 approx.

After the tier 1 and tier 2 exams interviews are held at various location in country. The interview consists of 100 marks. After interview your total marks out of 700 marks are declared and depending upon your rank seat is allotted to you in a particular department.
